This is the large version of 'Maunga Titirangi: Winter Solstice I' which I painted on linen. I wanted to try creating this scene on large scale while still including key details in the work, such as Te Poho O Rawiri Marae and the Toku Toru Tapu church, which are both nestled at the base of the maunga and always feature in my smaller paintings. 
The sun has almost set on the shortest day of the year and the street lights and the lights at the marae are glowing. This is a very moody piece which will add a lot of warmth, texture and interest to any space.
